Ramadan kicks off in Egypt
A fairly low key beginning here, from what I could tell. The main changes visible on a surface level are that all the kiosks and food stands were closed in the morning, and there was a whole ton of guys on the Metro reading the Koran. Normally there is one or two guys reciting from the Koran on any given carriage, today I'd say it was more like 30-40% of all the men.......I'd love to know if it is the same on the womens carriages - the women in the "mixed" carriages didnt seem to be reading....
So I am fasting, not on religious grounds, just to feel what it is like and get in sync with the locals, my friends, collegues etc. So far everything is cool although I could have really used a glass of water this morning. Lets see how this one plays out. How's everyone else doing?
