Ramadan means ugly toes
On one peaceful day, one idiot preacher decided that you cannot pray if you have nail polish on since it means that your nails are not clean. That preacher was backed by other fools.
Normally, this preacher's attention to the minute particles of religion rather than other more important things would never bother me or affect me since I completely disregard it, those preachers have too much time on their hands.
Well in Ramadan people expect you to be fasting, and if you are fasting you must pray. So if you have nail polish on it means you are not praying, and therefore not fasting.
And since the Egyptian dictionary left out the word "privacy" this becomes everyone's business. It's summer, we wear flip-flops and sandals - those of us who do not want repulsive feet like to use nail polish - but imagine sitting with a group of people - men and women - who you barely know. And someone points out that your toes are polished - hell breaks loose!
You have listen to a 2 hour lecture on how you are wrong and they are right.
At the beginning of my struggle with society I said - I live by my own terms, but after getting an average of 30 comments on your toes in one month it kinda puts you down.
And therefore Ramadan to me - among other things - means ugly toes

Luly,
Your toes are beautiful, not matter what you, or some bearded weirdo, thinks about the matter.
if it helps... i think non-painted toes are beautiful in a natural earthy-kinda way.
To be honest, the religion says that ablution does not go with nail polish. But what you can do is to ask God to forgive you before perform ablution and go… You can wear socks… You can say to preachers “I didn’t know next time I’ll do it”
But the essential is that you are convinced about what you're doing...
how does the koran say anything about nail polish?
I'm not sure either Quran or Hadith but any think that abstain water to wash the parts of the body is forbidden even small.
Maybe forbidden is a big word but you known what I mean?
Hey babe...
I think your toes are perfect too. Does that sound too lesbianish... well to be honest I never noticed your toes and I just wanted to make you feel better.
I do not think that nailpolish is wrong but I stopped putting it a long time ago because of what people say.
I do not think that it said so in the Quran either... but I have learned that in Islam so many people will believe something that somehow people think it is in the Quran.
I have a question for Ahmed,
"I'm not sure either Quran or Hadith but any think that abstain water to wash the parts of the body is forbidden even small."
My hair abstains the water from reaching my scalp.. should I shave it?
Luli.. when are we meeting for iftar??
I think it is just modern preaching and it freaks me out and makes me mad at the same time because i am pretty sure The Quran doesn't say anything about painted toes.
People (specially older people) have manipulated a lot of things and turned it into their own advantage so it probably started like: a man said girls with nail polished toes are taking care of themselves instead of paying attention to something else and it should be forbiden then someone else say that The Quran say something about it, no one checks and it is just passed on and on. Grrr!!!
It is not true that you cannot pray with nail polish! But if you live in a socity which condems this you should act acordingly and blend it - it might make your life easier. Sad but true.
ah ya lulli, i hear ya girl
How the hell can u wear sandals this way?? And everyone makes such a huge issue u would think it's the most sinful thing to do in ramadan!
For Nora Hamdy, I like your question; the answer is: In case your hair does not belong to your body then you should shave it, if not it should be ok!
No but seriously I'm not doing any cosmetics to my toes; that's why I didn't look for the exact Hadith related to this story. In the other way you can pray the way you want as long as you are sure that you are doing OK
I don't know if this is related to religion or not, but since my girlfriend painted my toes a rich burgundy (like hers), I have become a true beleiver! Being a guy, I never thought I'd like it as much as I did. I hope this does nto violate a divine law somewhere. No why didn't us guys know it would be this enjoyable earlier in life, like you girls already knew?
