Special Ramadan for me
Although this is my second Ramadan for me in the Netherlands, but this Ramadan was a very special one for me........and living 2 blocks away from - as far as I know - the biggest mosque in the Netherlands till next summer - another one is under construction that's far bigger - was different for me and performing the medium version of taraweeh's prayer for the first time in my life, well it was only once, but was worth trying.
This year had much more interactions with more people anxious to know about fasting, and had a lot of interesting discussions about Ramadan. couple of days ago was talking to a colleague when she told me that a Dutch-Moroccan friend of her said that muslims observe Eid (end of Ramadan) in Rotterdam, that the imams of the mosques stand on high places over their mosques after sunset on the 29th night of Ramadan and if they see the full moon, they'll call the other imams and then they confirm the following day to be Eid!! well, despite how primitive the story sounds like and the absolutely wrong information that was passed on, but clarifies for me a lot of things, specially the stereotype that most of European has against Islam and more specifically here in the Netherlands!!
Another story was from one Austrian friend when we met to have fitar together and she was asking about the time for breaking fast, as according to her information, muslims are supposed to break the fast when they try to look to a white piece of thread and they can't recognise it, because of lack of power!!
